Winter Learning Journey All about the New Zealand Flag

This is my New Zealand flag that I made what in inspired me was that the 4 stars that are red means to me that its a cross for the people that pass away for us in the war. The next one is the 4 yellow stars it stands for a cross that we always know that god will always be there for us. Next is the word New Zealand the word New Zealand means that New Zealand is a beautiful place where you can explore have fun and even learn new things in New Zealand.

Last year, the Prime Minister of New Zealand suggested that we should replace the flag with a new, updated design. He invited everyone in New Zealand to come up with their own flag design and submit it.

  1. Kia ora Aneelis,

I really like that you drew so much inspiration for your flag from the current design. It is nice to see the stars included as they are an important symbol to many New Zealanders. For some, they are a reminder of Matariki and the Maori New Year. For others, they are a reminder that we live in a beautiful country with amazing, starry skies. I think that it's a nice idea to also include the name of the country in the flag. It is not a common feature of flags but it does make it much easier to figure out which country is being represented by the flag!

I hope that you enjoyed making your flag. We certainly enjoyed reading about it!

    Cheers,
    Rachel :)

  3. Hi Aneelis

I love the adding of different colours to your new flag design and the meaning behind your inspiration to keep some parts of our current flag.

    Awesome work!
